FAQS

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • What is a timber frame?

A timber frame is a construction method utilizing heavy timbers joined together with traditional joinery techniques, often without the use of nails or screws. This method is known for its strength, durability, and aesthetic appeal, making it a popular choice for historic structures. Our timber frames are antique - meaning they are more than 100 years old. We have both pre-civil war and post-civil war era historic barns that are acquired, reclaimed and reconstructed to meet your home building or event space needs and expectations.

  • What is reclaimed wood?

Reclaimed wood is wood salvaged from old buildings and repurposed for new constructions. Valued for its unique character, patina, and sustainability, reclaimed wood reduces the need for new lumber and helps preserve natural resources. Reclaimed timber frames are an entire historic timber frame structure that has been preserved and re-erected for use as a new building. Our antique barns are an example of an entire structure made of reclaimed materials. Most of our historic barns require less than 5% new material so that they can be effectively re-erected for new construction.

  • What is the dry-in stage of construction?

The dry-in stage is a phase in construction where the structure is made watertight and secure from external elements, typically after the frame is erected. This phase includes installing the roof, windows, and doors to protect the interior from weather conditions. We offer this as part of our re-erect services to ensure that your new home, event space or building is ready for the next stage of finishing.

  • What are reclaimed architectural elements?

Architectural elements are components of a building that contribute to its design and functionality, such as beams, columns, windows, doors, and decorative features. In heritage restoration, architectural elements often include reclaimed materials that enhance the project's historical authenticity.

  • What is a barn conversion into homes or event spaces?

A barn conversion into homes, an event space, or a commercial structure transforms old, antique, heritage, and historic barns into modern, functional living spaces, stunning event venues, or unique businesses. This involves preserving the original timber frame and architectural elements while incorporating modern amenities and design features. We transport your dream historic barn to your location and help you reconstruct your dream antique structure.

  • What types of structures can your barns be used for?

Our historic reclaimed barns are versatile and can be reconstructed as exceptionally designed homes, event venues, or businesses. Working with our team of historic design architects and re-erection experts allows you to design your dream home using these incredible antique reclaimed structures.

  • What is heritage restoration?

Heritage restoration is the process of reconstruction, preserving, repairing, and restoring historic structures to maintain their original character and significance. This involves using traditional materials and techniques to ensure authenticity and historical accuracy. Our antique barns are transformed into stunning homes, unique even spaces and incredible businesses for clients seeking a historic building with all of the charm and authenticity that pre-civil war and post-civil war, century old structures offer.

  • What is a re-erected timber frame?

A re-erected timber frame is a timber frame that has been carefully dismantled, restored, and reassembled in a new location. This process allows historic structures to be preserved and appreciated in a new setting while maintaining their original craftsmanship and integrity. Our historic barns are reclaimed and reconstructed to become homes and event spaces.
